Diversity Team of the Year Award
Humberside Police places a strong emphasis on Positive Action, striving to connect with diverse communities while dispelling policing myths. They engage with various community segments, partnering with places of worship, local schools in diverse areas, and groups like the Eastern European women’s group. Notably, they’ve improved diversity in their student officer intake, particularly among women, Black and Minority Ethnics, and the LGBTQ+ community. A mentoring program aids candidates with protected characteristics through recruitment, offering one-on-one support. Recent intakes for December 22 and March 23 were among their largest ever, showcasing Positive Action’s impact. Over three years, the team drove structural and cultural change, introducing a Talent Acquisition strategy and PushFar mentoring platform for applicants. They offer tailored support for underrepresented candidates, breaking barriers and opening new opportunities within their communities.
