Inclusive Culture Initiative Award

North East Ambulance Service’s work over recent years on diversity and inclusion has made significant progress. They are delivering a range of initiatives and activities to engage and ‘on board’ people in a way that suits them. Some recent Initiatives include but aren’t limited to; a community positive action project; Community Ambassadors; BAME/Disability focused recruitment events; tools to help paramedics to communicate and triage people with communication needs; reviewed uniform requirements; improved accessibility; the development of equality allies and a range of online engagement channels. As a result, 111 service take up from BAME people has improved from 1.4% (12,000) calls to 2.1% (15,000), Interpreter’s use has risen by 60%, BAME staff have increased by over 30%, they have strong and healthy staff networks, over 100 equality allies, increased social media presence and over 60,000 people have engaged with online materials.
