Chief Executive of The Year Award
During his time as Principal and CEO of Bridgend College, Simon led the College through significant change and improvement. Simon has worked hard to develop a leadership and staffing team which is people-centred and has inclusion at its heart. Engaging with staff, students and the wider community, Simon initially led engagement workshops to establish the strategic direction of the College. Building on the mission focused on learners with complex additional learning needs, this strategy later became the heart of the College’s approach: Be All That You Can Be. This work has been the foundation of the College’s success achieving excellent judgements in HMI (ESTYN) inspections where his leadership was described in the report as “inspiring”. Estyn goes on to describe learners at the College “accepting one another without prejudice” as the inclusive practice of the organisation has been embedded throughout the College.
